What Is The REMS Technology?

REMS bone density scan technology display showing advanced ultrasound imaging and fracture risk assessment NYC

Understanding your true bone health goes beyond basic DEXA scans. REMS technology provides detailed insights including bone quality and microarchitecture assessment that DEXA cannot measure, offering superior fracture risk prediction to help you make informed decisions about your bone health strategy.

Advanced Technology

REMS technology measures both bone density AND bone quality - while DEXA scans rarely assess bone quality and when performed, can only assess the spine.

Superior Prediction

Studies show the 5-year risk of osteoporotic fracture is more accurately determined with the REMS Fragility Score than bone density scores from DEXA scans.

Radiation-Free Advantage

No ionizing radiation or X-rays - ultrasound technology allows for safe, frequent monitoring without cumulative radiation exposure like DEXA requires

REMS Testing Advanced Technology

Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry (REMS) is the most advanced bone density testing technology available, providing comprehensive bone health assessment that goes far beyond traditional DEXA scans.

What is REMS?

An innovative, radiation-free solution for assessing bone health at the lumbar spine and femoral neck, using a rapid scan powered by proprietary R.E.M.S. technology.

Key Advantages:

REMS vs Traditional DEXA Scans

Why REMS is Superior

DEXA Limitations

Radiation exposure limits frequency

Cannot be performed frequently due to radiation concerns

Only measures bone mineral density

Limited to quantity, not quality assessment

Can be affected by arthritis and positioning

Results may be skewed by external factors

Limited information about bone quality

Incomplete picture of bone health

REMS Advantages

Safe for frequent monitoring

No radiation means unlimited testing frequency

Measures both bone density and quality

Comprehensive assessment of bone health

Can be affected by arthritis and positioning

Accurate results regardless of conditions

Better tracking of treatment effectiveness

Monitor progress with superior precision

Member Success with REMS

Real experiences from our community

Impressed with the knowledge, care and community of this place. Osteostrong is really striving to open up more accurate and well rounded bone density testing, treatment and education to the community of the upper west side. I am a fitness trainer in the area and went in for a REMs test as someone in their late 30s, looking at preventative bone health care. I was surprised that test gave me a much more well rounded idea of my bone health. Talking with the test provider I got a much more detailed idea of how to take care of my bone health based off my test results. All the staff here are really great. They know the needs of all their clients. From Tom, the manager, and all the trainers to Zeena, the owner, you walk in and immediate feel welcomed. Zeena provides so much education to their clients on how you can care for your bones, looking at bone health from all different components- nutrition, exercise, stress relief.I also learned that working on the strength of your bones is not just for osteoporosis but can also help with athletics as well as just adding a level of strength to your body no matter what age. I highly recommend osteostrong and will be recommending them to my clients now matter the age

Laura Sifuentez

I’ve been doing sessions at UWS Osteostrong for a year — the staff is great. My body feels stronger and my balance is more stable. I’m also pleased that my bone density & fragility levels have improved a bit.

Barbara F.

So far, so good. Feel like this is forcing me to focus on strength and balance work! And the offering of the REMs test has taught me a new dimension in understanding bone health!

Frequently Asked Questions

What is REMS testing?

REMS stands for Radiofrequency Echographic Multi Spectrometry. REMS testing uses advanced ultrasound technology to evaluate Bone Density and Bone Quality. It's a radiation-free solution for early detection of deterioration in bone density.

How is REMS more accurate than DEXA?

Studies show the 5-year risk of an osteoporotic fracture is more accurately determined with the REMS Fragility Score alone over Bone Density scores completed by a DEXA scan. REMS technology overcomes significant flaws that exist in the precision of DEXA scans.

Is REMS testing safe?

Yes. REMS uses ultrasound technology with no ionizing radiation or x-rays. The CDC states that "Even small doses of radiation should be avoided if practical" - REMS has no ionizing radiation.

What does REMS measure that DEXA doesn't?

Every REMS test includes both T-Score (Bone Strength) and Fragility Score (Bone Quality). DEXA scans rarely assess Bone Quality, and when performed, can only assess the spine.

Is REMS FDA approved?

Yes. REMS Technology designed by Echolight has been approved by the FDA for use in the USA for bone density diagnostics.

How does REMS handle arthritis interference?

REMS technology overcomes flaws by filtering out distortions caused by arthritis and other issues that affect DEXA scans, providing a more accurate clinical picture.
